Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
It was established in 1958, and is considered
as one of the best zoos in the country. The zoo was dedicated to the former
Governor of West Bengal, Padmaja Naidu, on the 21st November, 1975. It is the
only zoo for breeding of the Tibetan wolf in captivity. Breeding programmes for
other endangered and rare animals like red panda, snow leopard and the Siberian
tiger are also carried out here. The zoo is closed on Thursdays and national
holidays.
Nightingale Park
This is also known as Srubbery Park and is about 2-5 kms from Darjeeling Railway
Station. Located at walk able distance from the Chowrasta, this beautiful park opens
from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. During the tourist season cultural programmes are performed
daily in the park. The park has been extensively re-developed with many new
features. The park now has a giant Statue of Lord Shiva, a temple, and
provisions for live-interactive entertainment. An entrance fee is charged here and
